The short version
Better Hours is a workday companion you pay for once. We collect the little we need to run your account, take your payment, and sync your workday settings across devices. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to train any model. The free tools on this site (the Pomodoro timer, break reminders, water reminder, and quizzes) run entirely in your browser and require no account.
What we collect
Account information. When you sign up, we store your email address (and, if you sign in with Google, the basic profile your Google account shares). Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication.
Workday data. The settings and activity that make the product work, such as your break preferences and check-ins, are stored in Google Cloud Firestore and tied to your account so they sync across your devices.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number; Stripe handles that and returns only a confirmation and non-sensitive details (such as the last four digits) we use to manage your purchase.
Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (pages viewed, rough location, device type) so we can improve the site. This is standard, non-identifying analytics.
Where your data is stored
Your account and workday data live in Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore), protected by Firebase security rules so your records are private to your account. Data is encrypted in transit. Payment records are held by Stripe under their own security and compliance program.
The free tools do not store anything on our servers. Any settings you change in them stay in your browser and are gone when you clear your browser data.
Why we use it
To create and secure your account, provide the product and sync it across your devices, process your one-time payment, respond to support requests, protect the service from abuse (we use Firebase App Check with reCAPTCHA), and understand aggregate usage so we can improve.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the service providers that make Better Hours run: Google (Firebase and Analytics) and Stripe (payments). They process it on our behalf under their own privacy terms. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to train machine-learning models. We may disclose information if required by law.
Your choices
You can request a copy of your account data or ask us to delete your account and its data at any time by emailing us. You can opt out of analytics using standard browser controls or an analytics opt-out extension. Deleting your account removes your workday data; some payment records may be retained by Stripe and by us as required for tax and accounting.
